THE DETAILS: SCARVES, BOAS, VEILS AND GLOVES
Minuscule highlights that bring out the essence of the goddess, lend subtle drama and elaborate sophistication. The details give out the message loud and clear - be a queen with casual aplomb.
HOW TO
Add sheared muslin trimmings to a cloth parasol (See page 123) and crystal droplets to your feather boa - sport the former on a shopping day out and the latter when hosting a big dinner bash. Equestrian influences have created a furore on international catwalks, especially with Jean Paul Gaultier's debut collection for Hermès. But, feminise those manly jodhpurs with a pair of sheer net gloves and an oversized ring.
Are you a pampered princess? If so, you definitely need a twinkling tiara to rein in your tresses and Swarovski has a perfectly sized, pearl-encrusted version.
For variation, knot up some silvery tissue fabric to make an inspired headband or a stylised veil. Let one chandelier earring drop from an edge. Invest in a good quality silk scarf (printed in a riot of colours, or a zany animal print) and use it as a wrap-around over your crocodile strap watch or as an armband with your handloom halter. If using in its traditional mode, grab more than a few stoles in differing lengths and twist one into a typical double-knot, another bow-style, the third braided and so on, to finally achieve a layered tie effect.
To tone it down without losing the starry appeal - a corsage of fresh freesia with a plain A-line dress, velvet borders running down from slitted pants, curled hair extensions to create big hair for a big outfit, fancy nail art to match an evening get-up, a snug muff for a black-tie do and, a selection of ubiquitous, ruby-red lipsticks to go with everything!
