THE LOOK: GODDESS-LIKE
Whatever the outfit, the ultimate result should spell GODDESS in capitals. Shimmer, shine and sheen definitely help recreate a divine persona, as do luscious fabrics, vintage finds, family heirlooms and the attitude of a prima donna.
HOW TO
Think goddess. If you believe in your mesmerising aura, others will too. Repeat a self-uplifting, positive mantra every day and witness a new you unfold.
Preliminaries are the foundation to a 'fantabulous' final outcome, so don't forget the besan, malai and rose water exfoliating scrubs, followed by a foaming bubble-bath and a smooth rub of cocoa butter lotion. Groom yourself with a silver-edged brush while peering into a Venetian mirror (See page 148) and sip calming nariyal paani for a stress-free complexion.
For the actual look, pair a dulled gold, sequined, mesh bustier with a bottle green, billowing organza skirt, while pumping the quirky volume with an Aki Narula sleeping bag style printed tote and latticed jootis. Or, a crushed and ruched column in a blazing shade of rust by Shantanu and Nikhil (See cover story) will do very nicely too.
The Indian devi has a host of wardrobe knick-knacks she can adopt for a 'fusion-goddess' feel - a kundan pendant as a brooch; a stretch of Hakoba fashioned into a long, back-trailing gown and tulle petticoats embellished with threadwork borders, to substitute as gypsy skirts.
In every case, the overall impression should portray sleek length; add volume in small measures if need be, maybe a wildly feathered jacket with a fitted sheer blouse and snug skirt (See page 114).
