Behind the Scenes
PUBLISHED: Volume 12, Issue 3, Third Quarter 2004
For once, cricket took a back seat when Mandira Bedi was in the room. The Verve team set out to give the effervescent lady a new look, courtesy designer Kiran Uttam Ghosh. We set the mood for the Punjabi lass with Mundian to bach ke playing at full blast, prompting Bedi to break out into a spirited bhangra! Photographer, Jatin Kampani made sure he captured her infectious vivacity, as she bowled everyone over with a twinkle in her eye.

A shyer subject was Indian cricket vice-captain, Rahul Dravid. A dream shoot for Verve writer Shraddha Jahagirdar-Saxena, she described him as “what every mother would want her son to grow up into!” Extremely co-operative and willing to give anything a shot - he even donned a particularly transparent pair of trousers, with only some protest and despite the threat of being mobbed, crossed the street with minimum fuss to get photographer, Meenal Agarwal her desired picture. Howzzat!

Model, Indrani Dasgupta, a picture of porcelain perfection, made our specially sent designer creations come alive. Her sinuous frame and luminous skin is a photographer's delight and Sameer Parekh clicked away even as we tried to make sure that our young Bharat Natyam dancers were in step. Versatile Indian elements mixed with the latest western garb in a melting pot of fusion ensembles, all to the beat of jingling ghungroos.

The new corporate woman is confident, in control and even sexy. We put model Piya Trivedi in tweed jackets, paisley shawls and metal stilettos, making her feel right at home in Verve's hectic work environment. Vipul Bhaghat's spot on make-up transformed the young Piya into a stylish tycoon, ready for a big business powwow. Our perfectionist photographer, Tina Dehal, whose lens missed no details and our team of working women, made for one high-powered shoot!
