Gauri and Nainika Karan

As close as two sisters can get, Gauri (25) and Nainika (24) Karan are completely involved with their designer label, Magnetic Rag. They owe their fascination with fine-flowing lines, surprisingly to their parents – Raja Vijay Karan, a retired CBI director and Pratibha Karan, a former IAS officer. “Our parents loved Broadway shows and old Hollywood movies,” remember Gauri and Nainika. “We grew up on a diet of films…. We used to love seeing all those glamorous heroines on screen, particularly Marilyn Monroe and Audrey Hepburn.” And so was sparked a nascent interest that blossomed into their label, Magnetic Rag, the name inspired by a piano piece played by Gauri. Graduates from the National Institute of Fashion Technology, New Delhi, they are making their debut at the India Fashion Week 2004.
