PRIYA RAJE SCINDIA

THE LITTLE PRINCESS

Wife of the Scindia scion, this young royal is another carry over from last year’s list. With husband Jyotiraditya Scindia’s foray into the political forefront, power dressing has become key and she now effortlessly balances chiffon saris with the latest trends.

Scindia frequently selects custom-made ensembles instead of designer wear, The Gap and Banana Republic rather than big couture houses. Most comfortable in casuals, she adds interesting belts or designer footwear to create her signature chic. One of her favourite buys, however, is a Hello Kitty bag, purchased in San Francisco. “It looks just like a Gucci bag and much to everyone’s dismay, it’s my favourite!” Whimsical touches like this make her style distinct. We love it!

Not one for ostentation, Scindia sticks to her low-key, high-street-meets-haute-couture mantra. “I don’t try too hard to make an impression. I go through phases…I once went through this big pink phase.” Today, saris are de rigueur and she is biased toward chanderis, cottons and the royal requisite – chiffon. Sophistication runs in her blood and she switches to the ‘politico’s wife’ role with that innate class.

Suppressing any desires to be outwardly stylish, she opts for an occasional flamboyance, instead of in-your-face flashiness. Carrying on a legacy of subdued glamour and regal charm, Scindia’s fashion leanings are as true blue as the blood in her veins.

Memorable Moment – At a memorial function for her late father-in-law, Madhav Rao Scindia, she wore a chamois satin sari – a part of her trousseau – shaded in peach and mint green. She accessorised it with heirloom jewellery, playing up her ancestral grandeur with a youthful appeal. Vintage is in and she’s a natural!
