Raging bundles of talent, a pulsating raw energy, the pop star group, Aasma, is oozing with spirited resolve to be the best…

A traditional tongue-twister, some toe-tapping disco beats, a clubby-feel video and four fabulous vocals make for a cocktail chartbuster that is Chandu ke chacha.

Channel V and Coke have done it again with their second lot of pop stars. Jimmy, Vasudha, Neeti and Sangeet, an enthusiastic and bubbly quartet, are aiming to redefine Indian pop culture with their brand of teenybopper spunk. The band’s recent debut and consequent guest appearances at various music events have helped bolster an identity that already boasts of an enviable fan following.

A great mélange of tracks, including Tumse hi pyaar, a ballad, and Jeet lenge hum, a symbolic anthem, stamp Aasma’s first attempt with unarguable versatility. Proving yet again, how immensely gifted some of the country’s closet bathroom singers can be! While there’s no denying the pulsating raw energy they exude, many admirers admit that Viva, their immensely successful predecessors, were a more polished lot.

The Aasma USP is more peppy pretty than classy chic, and many dress rehearsals will be slated on the cards before the rough edges are smoothened to reveal a stylish sheen of sophistication essential to any music group claiming international stature. It is true that Viva’s a tough act to follow, especially with favourable reports surrounding their second album. But if anyone can meet up to the challenge, Aasma can. After all, it’s fairly easy to improvise on the packaging of a raging bundle of talent, oozing with a spirited resolve to be the best.
