Verve Line Up: Verve Behind The Scenes
PUBLISHED: Volume 11, Issue 4, Fourth Quarter 2003

Our penchant for Bollywood is getting to be pretty obvious. We particularly enjoyed our reel-life actors -- Urmila Matondkar, Zeenat Aman, Hrithik Roshan and Aamir Khan -- in this issue. Our sparkling cover girl bubbled into the studio in jeans and T-shirt accessorised with non-stop chatter. And what a transformation there was after our stylist and the make-up duo, Bharat and Doris, sunk their creative claws into the malleable star. We are sure that you love our delicious cover. Zeenat Aman, zoomed in at the Lemon Grass Café, Bandra, Mumbai, in her gold-hued Sonata. The actress turns heads wherever she goes and had columnist Anil Thakraney drooling for more. She proved herself to be a perfectionist to the core, checking for tiny flaws in her hand-held mirror at regular intervals -- a professional to the hilt! Hrithik Roshan’s un-starry manner and genuine warmth charmed the designer pants off everyone. “I just died!” says creative director, Falguni Sheth, who was speechless when he
walked in. The shoot took place in Rakesh Roshan’s ‘palpable’ home, hung with innumerable paintings and strung with family portraits and snapshots. Wonderfully accessible to Verve, the interview was set up via SMS, in between promos for Koi… Mil Gaya and an imminent flight to Ladakh for a location shoot. Last but not the least – Aamir Khan. The man of the moment. The most elusive in all of Bollywood. Over two particularly wet monsoon days, at his newly-minted apartment, Khan proved himself a control freak. He carefully checked every Polaroid and shared warm vibes with the photographer, wholeheartedly opening up wardrobe, home and hearth for the Verve team. Man Friday, Amos, served endless cups of tea and coffee and food was ordered for the taking. We discovered Bollywood hospitality, at its warmest!
