Viva Italia!
ONLINE EXCLUSIVE!
[Andrea Bonardi, Urmila Matondkar, Giuseppe Modenese and Anuradha Mahindra]

Festa Italiana 2003 continued with all the romance, flavour and style that is oh so essentially Italian! All roads led to Mumbai’s Olive Bar and Kitchen on Sunday, November 23 as the curtain went up to a specially orchestrated fashion show. To celebrate the inauguration of the Lombardia week, the Indo-Italian Chamber of Commerce and Industry and the Olive Bar and Kitchen, in association with Verve, hosted a dinner cum fashion show.

The cynosure of all eyes was Giuseppe (Beppe) Modenese, Honorary President, National Chamber of Italian Fashion. The high priest of Italian fashion, credited with making Milan the fashion capital of the world, had the fashion industry, socialites and the world…eating out of his hand.

For us, the evening began as cover girl, Urmila Matondkar, with Anuradha Mahindra, editor and publisher, Verve, made a dramatic entry, at the narrow entrance of Olive. Even in the crowded, dark interiors, these power women did create quite a stir.

When the excitement died down slightly, it was time for the fashion models to move centrestage following a skillfully presented slide show. Elegantly and gracefully walking the ramp, in designerwear from the Spring-Summer 2004 collections of Versace, Dolce and Gabbana, Prada, Pucci and Gianfranco Ferre, they had the fashionistas spellbound.

The fashion industry was well represented as was the world of Bollywood and high society. Spotted letting their hair down were Tina Tahiliani Parikh, Tarun Tahiliani, Narendra Kumar Ahmed and Kadambari, Tony and Sherry Singh, Lubna Adams, Arjun and Shefali Khanna, Dino Morea and Nandita Mahtani, Zeba Kohli, Ramesh and Kiran Sippy, among others….

The drinks flowed as people queued up to sample the elaborate spread of Italian gourmet fare laid out. The line moved slower than snails in slow motion…but the wait was worth it…And, the fine fare was topped by the delicious desserts… calories be damned, the Italians are worth it!
