Her hip-sway on the fashion runway could make a deck hand seasick. London-based model, Joey Matthew, 6 feet tall, stands out on the ramp by her walk – stompingly seductive! Here, she discusses her own style favourites

Own person: I am originally from Kerala, lived there all my life until I went to Delhi to law school. I apprenticed under Ram Jethmalani and am a full-fledged lawyer. However, I have been modelling in London, I shot the Vodafone commercial in Italy and for Getty Images with Karan Kapoor in Spain. Finally, it’s about what you like to do, no?

Fave designers: Manish Arora! There was a particular outfit that I wore in full red at the Lakme India Fashion Week (LIFW) that was perfect for me. I love red and the outfit was so feminine. Shantanu is another favourite of mine. I own a pair of white harem pants of Wendell Rodricks that are really cool and that I wear at least once a month. Some newspaper said I hated Wendell and that is not true. I wonder why they said that.

Day look: Mostly you see me in pants. Today, my white cotton pants (with flower and butterfly motif) are from Miss Sixty which is one of my favourite brands for clothing. These black and red keds are from Adidas and the socks (with ‘wild woman’ imprinted on them) are from Sock Shop.

No to jeans: When everyone is wearing jeans, it becomes too much. India is really not jeans country and when I do wear them, it’s really big jeans. You cannot overturn comfort for style.

Accessory freak out: I am an accessory freak – a pair of nice shoes and good accessories can jazz up anything. Spending money on accessories is a vice. I own jewellery from flea markets in Goa, in Spain, everywhere. Really attractive shades (Joey’s big white pair have become a trademark) and great shoes….

Hats: I am a big hat person. In London (she’s been working there these last few months) when you go out at nights, it gets really cold. The wind howls in my ear and it hurts. I have a Fish Fry hat, a sailor hat in red and white stripes, which is cool. These are for my bad hair days. Bad hair means hat’s on!

Fave style thingy: I have a kind of camouflage helmet that I wear as a fashion accessory even for a night out. It literally fell off a truck and a friend brought it for me. I tore the lining out since it was really hot and I wear it as it is.

Wardrobe favourite: My latest obsession is this top that is made of just beads. It’s not vulgar or anything. I would wear it over a red bikini top. It’s fantastic. I just wore it in my room in London and packed it up for Mumbai.

Style philosophy: Everything is a flavour.

Back to work: I will be returning to London, to all the lingerie shows. The thing about having an agent is, you never really know what you are doing next.
