Verve and Women Entrepreneurs 2013

A sunny Wednesday afternoon last month ushered in a mood of celebration filled with vibrant colours as an overwhelming number of visitors gathered at Vivanta by Taj President, Mumbai. All roads led to Women Entrepreneurs 2013 – the much-awaited pre-Diwali exhibition organised by the Ladies’ Wing of the Indian Merchants’ Chamber.

Footfalls increased by the minute as, beaming with excitement, shoppers thronged outside the ballroom long before the stipulated time of opening. The exhibition, that attracted a glamorous crowd of fashion enthusiasts, spilled over two days of bountiful shopping. And two days were clearly not enough!

Each year, the IMC spreads its wings, bringing women to the forefront of the country’s economic activities. While guests splurge over a gazebo of gifts, the festive season also brings with it a celebration of today’s spirited women.

For the fifth year in a row, Verve tied up with the Ladies’ Wing of the Indian Merchants’ Chamber. IMC and Verve’s special invitees included several ladies like Kokilaben Ambani, Smita Thackeray, Indu Shahani, Raageshwari Loomba, Nisha Jamvwal and Kiran Sippy who were all, on arrival, requested to tie the auspicious thread on the beautifully decorated Tree of Life. And they willingly obliged, so that the tree was soon festooned with several colourful threads.

After browsing through fancy creations and inviting goodies lined up for sale, the guests took a break from their shopping in the well-appointed Verve lounge to metaphorically put their feet up for a few moments. Relaxing in the comfortable area, the guests shared notes about their purchases, read the copies of Verve that were on display and ensured that they had their own with them before leaving the lounge.

Another popular draw was the Night Bazaar at this annual soirée. Like last year, shopping did not stop at sunset enabling fashionistas to shop till they drop.

There was a plethora of talent on show. Designer Shruti Sancheti showcased her line of festive clothing, while Geetanjali’s jewellery exhibition had everyone spellbound by its shine.

The IMC and Verve have always believed that the focal point of this endeavour has been to empower women entrepreneurs. This year, the exhibition was given an added meaning as part of the proceeds will go towards the rehabilitation of the affected at Uttarakhand. The Ladies’ Wing, with its promising ventures, has given women an opportunity to connect with industry professionals and at the same time, the local community thus creating a viable platform for empowerment. Something that Verve has always believed in – giving more power to women!
