Verve’s private launch of its special art issue was a colourful affair with the city’s cognoscenti in full attendance

The torrential downpour did not deter guests from attending Verve’s exclusive launch of the Annual Art Issue. Kala Ghoda’s Gallery 7 played host for the evening, with works by Bose Krishnamachari adorning the walls – and the artist himself was on hand to mingle with the sparkling crowd. Bollywood hunk, John Abraham kicked off the soirée with a brief, but charming appearance.

Elegant timepieces from the latest collection by Dior were displayed in beautiful watch towers dotted inside the gallery and on the cordoned-off pavement where revellers gathered. Various cliques posed for photographs with the canvases, adding to the fun atmosphere. It couldn’t possibly have rained on Verve’s July issue’s cover photographer, Jatin Kampani’s parade as he accepted felicitations for the shoot, in front of a gallery wall of images from the art-inspired fashion story. Artists, photographers, models and the social set all partook of heady Chardonnay and Sangiovese from Fratelli Wines.

At various points in the evening, guests voiced their appreciation of musician Jonqui’s fantastic soundtrack. Attentive waiters hovered with platters of tempting hors d’oeuvres from Flamboyante, proffering chicken sheekh kebabs, Thai golden baskets and skewers of sun-dried tomatoes, mozzarella and basil, among other delicacies.

Spotted at the glamorous evening – co-sponsored by Godrej Properties that believes in making art known to people on a larger canvas – were Girish Shah, Anjali Maheshwari, Kalpana Shah, Brijesh and Sangeeta Mehra and many more of Mumbai’s glittering cognoscenti. This charming venue was clearly the place to be on that lovely night, with the rocking music carrying on into the wee hours.
