The intonation of todayís readers is that they want a racy read without compromising on the quality of the story. Purists may scoff, but there definitely are some in-between reads that make for an engaging afternoon. Powerplay by Parinda Joshi is one such novel. The plot traces the paths of Vivek Grewal and Keya Singhal. They form each otherís respective conflicts, with one being an aggressive go-getter, and the other is an idealistic employee with a paradoxical no-nonsense nature. He sets his goals high, but the world of mergers is murky. Built on a base of cricket and corporate politics, this is a story where subtle undercurrents flavour the tale.
