Verve’s 100th issue celebrations that were the talk of the town... After Delhi, it was the turn of Mumbai to rock to Verve-alicious beats. All eyes turned to Shiro that night as the curtain went up on our 100th issue celebration – the second one, indeed. And our country’s commercial capital did us proud even though it was a weekday–as our invitees turned up, dressed in their best, all ready to dance the night away. The driveway to Shiro, empty around eight, saw a traffic jam of sorts, as cars drove up with Mumbai’s party animals ready to join in the celebrations. The venue did ample justice to the occasion – as its doors rolled open, guests walked into the lounge, whose walls were high, but the ambience was warm and inviting. There were many sit-down areas – three bars that offered a continuous supply of every kind of drink available, a sushi counter with an endless supply of munches, and of course, Verve. The first thing you spotted on entering was the special poster created by artist, Bose Krishnamachari, that was poised right in front. And, alongside one wall, Verve’s roll of honour played on – as a slideshow showcased all the 100 covers. One could almost sense a few guests counting as the images rolled on one after the other. Within a short time, the two-tiered venue began to fill up as the city’s glam set and achievers from different fields walked in. And, while the DJ played some catchy retro tunes, the lounges witnessed varied conversations amidst lots of air-kisses and warm hugs. The excitement built up as more and more of Verve’s friends, fans and well-wishers trooped in. The enjoyment knew no bounds as artists, photographers, writers, designers, fashionistas, brand heads and the business set mingled freely, exchanging greetings with seamless bonhomie. The sitting area in the balcony provided space for tired feet to rest before taking off again. And to keep the energy levels high, platters of food were carried across the entire area as waiters deftly found their way through the crowd on the floors. Tasty niblets like chilli potatoes, water chestnut dumplings, tamarind tofu in crispy cups and a trio of cheesecake and chocolate sushi had everyone turning into Oliver Twist, asking for more. And, the trays kept coming! For those who liked their cup of poison more Vladivar Vodka, Four Seasons Wine, Pinky Vodka and pitchers of Kingfisher beer kept the revellers in high spirits. No one wanted to leave and though the witching hour had set in and passed by, the tempo seemed to go up by the minute. And when the Verve team took collectively to the floor, a cheer was raised.
